Happy June! After a much delayed spring across the country, complete with videos of people snow-golfing in April (using a plastic water bottle as a tee on a snow drift… brilliant!), let’s hope for a nice HOT summer. Speaking of golf, remember to renew your CSEG memberships if you are planning on playing in the T-Wave, WiSE or the DoodleBug… tiered membership rates are still in effect for 2018.

Ski Spree

As the outgoing Chairman as well as the incoming Chairman, I’m honored to be part of such a great event. Our entire SkiSpree committee worked endlessly over several months to insure the 2018 Ski Spree was another huge success, and I thank them for their efforts. Snow conditions were great, as was the entertainment and the Fairmont Hot Springs’ hospitality. This year we raised over $3260 for Inn From The Cold and $1000 for the CSEG Foundation!

We are already working towards next year’s event with the dates set for the 8th- 10th of February, 2019, so save those dates!

This event cannot and will not ever run without our sponsors, so a very very big THANK YOU to all.

Cheers,
Geoff Castle, Chairman

66th DOODLEBUG

It is with great pleasure to confirm that the 66th Doodlebug will be back in Banff on September 14th & 15th, 2018. After the impressive increase in registrations last year, we will continue with the streamlined 2-day version of the tournament. The only difference this year is that we will golf Friday and Saturday. This will allow people to rest and relax a bit more on Sunday morning after an epic night of socializing at the Rimrock Resort on Saturday night.

I would encourage everyone to register early, as you might have heard that last year’s edition was sold out for the first time in many years. There will be a mix of hotel options, and attendees will have choices between the Rimrock Resort, the newly renovated Mount Royal Hotel and the Elk & Avenue Hotel. Go to www.doodlebuggolf.ca for registration information.

There will be a Friday 10:30am Shotgun start at the Banff Springs golf course Stanley Thompson original 18 for Doodlebug flights. This year guests will have the opportunity to play the Stanley Thompson 18 and will tee off at the same time as the main tournament. After a sensational day spent on one of the best golf courses in Canada, we will enjoy a casual evening downtown to reconnect with old friends and make some new ones. Our entertainment committee is working hard to make this a night you will remember for a long time.

Saturday shotgun will be at 10am, which will allow registrants to have a good breakfast and a few practice swings before the fight for that so-wanted ceramic. Guests will also have the option to play another round of golf on Saturday at the same time as the main tournament, or ride/hike the Sulphur Mountain Gondola for a well-earned meal at Sky Bistro. The day will conclude with a reception at the Rimrock Hotel. Be ready for plenty of entertainment, refreshments and the awards and flight winners presentations.

The Doodlebug Golf Tournament is an event held each summer that provides a competitive yet fun golf venue for CSEG members of all levels and ability, from scratch golfers to true first-timers. Golfers are put in “Flights” based off of their handicaps with the goal of having a competitive and fun round of golf regardless of ability. Guests and spouses can choose from a full schedule of formal and informal social events throughout each day and on into the evenings. It is the social and networking aspect of this event that provides the basis for a great weekend amongst old and new friends of the Canadian Geophysical Industry.

The 2018 Doodlebug Committee is once again working hard to make this tournament both an enjoyable and memorable weekend for you and your guests. We thank you for your continued support and look forward to seeing you in Banff.

Alex Gauthier,
66th Doodlebug Chairman
