Happy November… For those of you who attended the Challenge Bowl at the GeoCanada Convention this past May, you will be happy to hear that our winning CSEG team, consisting of Meriem Grifi and Andrew Brenders from the University of Western Ontario, performed extremely well at the competition down at the SEG in October! Nine teams, comprised of the best students from across the globe, competed in Denver at the SEG Challenge Bowl for the title, and Meriem and Andrew were the first runners-up (behind a team from the University of Wyoming). Congratulations Meriem and Andrew! We are very proud of you.
CANADIAN JOURNAL OF EXPLORATION GEOPHYSICS
We are excited to announce that the CSEG peer-reviewed journal Canadian Journal of Exploration Geophysics (CJEG) is being revived under the guide of Larry Lines, Professor, Department of Geoscience, University of Calgary. An electronic version of the CJEG will be published 1-2 times per year with each issue containing usually 6-12 refereed papers.
This is great news for our Academics, as there is a need for a peer-reviewed exploration geophysics journal in the Canadian research community. While the Recorder will continue to be effective as the mainstream CSEG publication, it is not classified as a peer-reviewed journal and academic researchers cannot claim their Recorder articles as being peerreviewed when applying for research grants. This gives them a Canadian avenue to be recognized.
The following individuals have agreed to initially serve on the CJEG Committee: Larry Lines, Satinder Chopra (co- Editors); Sven Treitel, Patrick Daley and Kris Innanen (Associate Editors). These individuals have served as SEG Editors, CJEG Editors, TLE Editorial Board members.
A call for papers is happening in 2010, and the first publication is scheduled for June 2011. For those members unfamiliar with the CJEG, you may find electronic versions on the CSEG website at the following address: http://cseg.ca/resources/journal
Information on paper requirements will be included in the November 2010 Recorder or for immediate assistance, please contact Larry Lines (lrlines@ucalgary.ca), CJEG Co-Editor.
