Before highlighting the 2016 program with its reduced price points, program and new initiatives, I must first recognize the continued support of our sponsors and exhibiting companies. Through the thick and the thin, many of our supporters have stayed true, joining us and supporting us for GeoConvention 2016 in some of the worst industry conditions we have faced in recent memory. For those who do not have the budgets this year to join us, it is certainly understandable and we hope to have you back in 2017.

Too, I must also recognize the efforts put in by our committee volunteers. This has certainly been a tough year to put together a solid program with the challenges presented by a change in timing of the event (from May to March), a competing event coming to town later in the year and the business environment we are in; I am extremely proud of our team of volunteers who have taken the 2016 challenge head on to provide amazing technical content, networking events, luncheons and a first-ever off-site panel and workshop component.

GeoConvention 2016 will introduce new initiatives and programs as we aim to grow the event beyond the standard annual format that has been the GeoConvention model of the past to an industry-leading technical and networking event that will set the new standard going forward. Under the formal Partnership Agreement between the CSEG, CSPG and CWLS, GeoConvention has fulltime commitment and consistent direction to allow us to grow and explore opportunities for an increased reach and footprint.

Specific to 2016, in addition to our integrated technical program, we will be hosting discussions and presentations covering the business side of our industry as we attempt to draw conclusions on the industry downturn and hopeful recovery, we will integrate panel discussions and presentations tailored to those looking for work with insights from hiring managers, HR personnel and recruitment firms. We will also explore business culture and workplace diversity within our industry as we learn how to optimize our human capital. In recognition of the needs of our partner society members, we have also teamed with NES Global Talent to host resume reviews and on-site mock-interviews, allowing for personal development and helping with a quick turnaround for those who may find themselves without employment due to the downturn.

Following the Monday to Wednesday program at the Telus Convention Centre, GeoConvention 2016 will also see our first off-site program as we leverage the season and host panel discussions, a series of workshops, a mini-core conference and networking events in Lake Louise as a stand-alone event on the Thursday and Friday. The GeoConvention offsite will explore the impacts of the low commodity prices in how we operate. We will explore insights from the VP’s of Geoscience and Technology and take an in-depth look at the efficiencies that must be integrated into our workflows, business plans and operations to return the maximum value possible. Families are welcome and pricing is $400 for the event and $99 per night for the room.

With the new session content, off-site and services being offered to our delegates, the goal for GeoConvention 2016 is to continue to provide best in class, integrated, technical content, superior networking events where individuals can truly network with colleagues and to simply to allow as many people to participate as possible. The price point for GeoConvention 2016 has been reduced to $390 for members (early bird) to allow everyone interested to attend, we certainly understand times are tight and do not want to discourage anyone from attending based on finances, the pricing is based on a break-even budget as we are here to provide a service and hope as many people as possible are able to take advantage as we strive to maximize the return on registration.

On behalf of the organizing committee, we certainly hope that you will join us March 7th through 9th at the Calgary Convention Centre, March 9th through 11th at Lake Louise or at both events to take advantage of our technical content, keynote luncheons, networking events and off-site.
