Katalyst Data Management announced the launch of their seismic and well data management consulting service to support the oil and gas industry in Calgary.

Katalyst has identified a need arising from the current market environment for reliable, professional and vetted data management services to improve a client’s data access, speed and accuracy, ensure compliance and minimize corporate risk. The company now has the capability to deploy onsite consultants to help E&P companies manage their volumes of subsurface data acquired for oil and gas exploration.

“We have noticed a trend over the past two years that actual technical abilities in the industry have declined due to rapid job reductions in the geoscience community,” stated Neil Baker, Vice President of North America Sales for Katalyst. “With this in mind, we now offer these services to help fill the knowledge gap.”

Katalyst’s consulting services will include project management and data loading, navigational support, metadata management, ownership, corporate governance, assistance with the divestiture process and data management best practices. The data management consultants provided by Katalyst have experience in geoscience applications and working with PPDM, seismic and well data formats.

WISE 2017: Back to the 80s

The annual Women in Seismic golf tournament was held on Thursday, September 14th at the Fox Hollow golf course in Calgary. This year featured a fully sponsored, 9 hole tournament with 73 golfers with a “Back to the 80s” theme. Our tournament welcomes all members of the geophysical community (regardless of gender, service company, oil company, data technician or geophysicist… everyone is welcome to participate), and it is always FUN first!

Sponsors are encouraged to interact with the golfers, and this year we had a Strong Arm competition (ring the bell), a name that 80s tune game, and longest/shortest drives. We hold an annual costume competition, with the prize being the Sean Callaghan Spirit Award, and this year’s winners were the MacKenzie Family (think Bob and Doug and their 80-year-old parents).

Our long-term charity partnership has been with the Cancer Foundation, and this year we raised over $9000 for Ovarian and Breast Cancer research (YAY us!). The WiSE Committee would like to thank all of our sponsors and raffle/team prize donators: we could NOT make this tournament as successful without you. Save the Date for the 2018 tournament: Thursday, September 13th, 2018.
