In memory of our dear friend Dr. Matthew Moshupi who passed away August 28th at the Foothills Hospital. For those of us who knew him, it is a huge loss. Whenever we see a dark blue beret, we remember Matt.

Husband to Hildegard, Matthew was born in Pretoria, South Africa in 1939. He left South Africa in 1961, following the turmoil which resulted from the imprisonment of Nelson Mandela, and had an exciting journey across Africa to a refugee camp in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. He had an opportunity to study in Germany, where he met Hildegard in 1966. They married and moved to Calgary where Matthew continued his studies at the University of Calgary earning his Masters in Nuclear Physics and Doctorate in Astrophysics.

Employed by C&C Systems as a Geophysical Processor, Matthew learned German, and the dialect of Hessen, fluently, and also spoke Tswane, Afrikaans, and English. He could be heard conversing with the tourists from Germany at Radium and elsewhere. He was a humorous and dependable man. He was trustworthy and competent at work and was involved in a number of outdoor activities such as Squash which he loved to play.

The technical abilities which he possessed made his office a hub of activity. The office has fallen silent now and we all miss him greatly. Ciao, Matthew. (respectfully submitted by Keith Jones).
