Happy November! If you see several of our CSEG gentlemen sprouting crazy moustaches this month, I would suspect that they are participating in the Movember charity drive to raise funds and awareness for men’s health issues, specifically prostate cancer. Two geophysicists who will be definitely growing a “mo” are Shaun Ali (Talisman) and Nathan Baker (Crescent Point) who are members of the “Nate Burgandy and the Channel 4 News team”: consider donating to their cause… or growing a “mo” yourself! The SEG Oil and Gas Reserves Committee
The SEG Oil and Gas Reserves Committee (SEG OGRC) has decided to go ahead and commit itself to produce a special issue of The Leading Edge (TLE) on the role of Geophysics in Reserves Estimation. This issue is planned for September 2012.
The special issue will focus on rolling out new industry guidelines (PRMS Application Document and possibly COGEH updates), supplemented by several key case studies.
You may be aware that the CGF/CSEG is represented by its chair as an observer on the SEG OGRC. At the last SEG OGRC committee meeting, it was suggested that some of the CSEG members may be able to provide us with one or more excellent case studies on the use of Geophysics in Resource Estimation for Unconventionals from Canadian asset areas. Inclusion of a few case-studies on Unconventionals would definitely increase the quality of this TLE special issue.
We would therefore kindly request you to consider submitting a contribution to this TLE Special Issue. A TLE special article is typically about 3-7 magazine pages in length. A general rule of thumb is about 2500 words and 5-8 figures. Please let us know (HJ.Kloosterman@shell.com or marian.hanna@iongeo.com) before the end of November of your intent to contribute.
Looking forward to receiving many contributions, we remain,
Marian Hanna (CGF-CSEG Chair)
& Henk Jaap Kloosterman (SEG OGRC Chair)

Women in Seismic – Over $5000 Raised!
Thanks again to the 120 women and the Hole Sponsors who braved the ONLY cold day in September to participate in the 11th Annual Women in Seismic Golf Tournament. We raised over $5000 for the Alberta Cancer Foundation, which supports initiatives in Calgary to assist people affected by cancer. This is a great cause, and they truly appreciate your time and generous donations.
Thanks also to Fox Hollow Golf Course for their continued support for this event. The staff, both on the course and in the kitchen, provide the backdrop for a fun-filled day for all participants. I was excited to see a lot of new faces at the event this year, and hope that more people will be able to attend next year as well.
Speaking of new faces… I am pleased to announce that I will once again be taking a more active role in the tournament as the new Chair. Danielle Harrison will still be involved, as well as Kristy Manchul, Pam Larson, Crystal Geiss, and Holly Hood. I am hoping to take the fantastic work Danielle has done and keep moving it forward. I will look for ways to grow the tournament and the donations for the Alberta Cancer Foundation. Chairing this tournament is very exciting for me and I appreciate Danielle’s support, as well as all the amazing work done with this tournament in the years that she was Chair.
Watch the RECORDER for more information in the New Year!
Thanks!
