Happy September! Welcome back to work… I have to admit, I am a wee bit jealous of all the returning summer students. I always find that the first few weeks of September make me want to go back to school... sad, but true. Hey? Speaking of starting the year off fresh, have you checked out the new CSEG offices yet? We have moved over to the Roslyn building on 5th Ave and 4th Street SW (YAY... Plus 15 accessible). Hopefully Jim and Sheryl will enjoy their new surroundings.

WiSE Tournament – Sponsorship Opportunities

The Women in Seismic (WiSe) Golf Tournament was started in 2000 to allow women in the Seismic industry an opportunity to network and socialize with their peers. Our entrants are from all parts of the industry: geophysicists, geologists, technical staff, processors, copy houses, management, sales, and support staff from service companies. This year we are donating all proceeds to both Breast Cancer and Ovarian Cancer. With the support of corporate and personal donations, WiSe has raised over $60,000 in the past few years. Your contributions on this day make the tournament the success that it is each year.

We invite you and your company to be a part of the 11th annual Women In Seismic Golf Tournament! This event will take place Monday, September 12th at the Fox Hollow Golf Course in Calgary, and you may contribute by generously donating products or services to be used as raffle items, silent auction items or team prizes. Every company who makes a donation will have their name printed in our event booklet and placemats. Corporate hole sponsorship opportunities or 19th Hole Sponsorship Information on hole sponsorship may be obtained by contacting Danielle Harrison (Danielle. harrison@divestco.com).

As always, a large part of the tournament is showcasing Silent Auction items and raffling prizes generously donated. All money raised is donated to the Alberta Cancer Foundation. If you are able to contribute to this great cause through a prize, team prize or Silent Auction item, please contact Pamela Larson (pamela.larson@nuvistaenergy.com) or Danielle Harrison (danielle.harrison@divestco.com).

Thank you in advance for your support of the Women in Seismic Golf Tournament and the Alberta Cancer Foundation.

South American Exploration Acquires Datum Exploration Ltd.

Calgary, July 4, 2011 – South American Exploration (SAE) today announced that it has reached an agreement to acquire 100% of the outstanding shares in Datum Exploration Ltd. Datum is a private, employee-owned seismic services company, based in Calgary, Alberta. The combined company will provide an industry-leading management team to continue serving the Canadian oil and gas marketplace. “We are very pleased to expand and strengthen our footprint in the seismic services sector,” commented Brian Beatty, SAE’s President and CEO. “Datum has established its reputation for quality work over the past two decades through a collaborative, client-focused approach, precisely the same foundation SAE was built on. We are excited about adding Datum’s people, resources and experience to the SAE team.”

Established in 1987 Datum has grown from providing niche services in western Canada to a full-service national seismic contractor. “The new SAE-Datum team will allow us to remain technologically competitive as well as maximize the utilization of our resources at an international level,” said Datum President Dave Siegfried. He added, “We are seeing increasing interest in microseismic, multi-component recording and in wireless technologies. The new structure allows us to be competitive in all these segments.”

CSEG T-Wave Golf Tournament

The 3rd Annual CSEG T-Wave Golf Tournament was held on June 20th at the Inglewood Golf & Curling Club. Considering that May and June continued to be very wet in Calgary, we once again received preferential treatment by Mother Nature as she only opened up the rain clouds for about two holes. We once again had a full slate of 144 golfers registered and as in the past, we had a mix of 50/50 geophysicist/service personnel and that was even with the wet spring that Calgary has become known for as of late.

Again, we focused on the fun aspect of the tournament and everyone that stayed for prizes received one if not two. For the most part, people chose their own foursomes with those entering solo being matched up with other solo entries.

Our Sponsors this year were (and are) on the website:

Ace Level – Divestco, Nexen, and SourceX Geophysical Corporation, Synterra Technologies

Eagle Level – RPS Boyd PetroSearch, Command Equipment/Terra-Sine, Earth Signal Processing, Sensor Geophysical Ltd., Pulse Seismic

Albatross Level – Absolute Imaging, Airborne Nabors, GeoTir, WesternGeco

Birdie Level – Arcis Seismic Solutions, BJV, KDM, Lorrnel Seismic Project Management, Maxam North America, Oyo Geo Space

Donations were given by: INOVA

Our chosen charitable organization for the tournament was the former Kids in Science Project (KISP) which is now Earth Science for Society (ESfS). 50/50 tickets were sold as well as Pulse Seismic sold tickets which gave a team the ability to use the pro’s drive on that hole. A total of $1210 was raised with Pulse raising a large percentage of that.

A big thank you goes to all the great committee members who made this tournament such a huge success. We may be new but we are learning every year and are committed to putting on a Great Fun event for everyone.

Sponsorship – David Caldwell, Dennis Melrose, Craig Van Dongen and Mike Cardell

Golf – Patty Evans and Vlad Simin

Finance – Susan Thomson

Registration – Dick Willott

Prizes – Sandy Lucas

Jeff Gautreau helped out the day of the tournament with Registration and 50/50 tickets.

Jim Hostetler also graciously helped us out as well getting ready that day.

It was a fun filled packed day and by the feed back we received so far, everyone had a great time. If anyone wants to give additional feedback they are free to email me at Jocelyn_ frankow@sensorgeo.com as we are always looking at ways to improve the tournament. All my best. Jocelyn.
