Happy Spring! As this is our convention issue, I would like to encourage everyone to make the effort to come down to the CSEG/CSPG/CWLS joint convention, this year entitled (hopefully appropriately!) “recovery 2011”. Apart from luncheons, golf tournaments, seasonal parties, ski trips and curling bonspiels, this is one of the BEST opportunities for people to network with former colleagues and classmates. Actually… when writing that down, we DO seem to have many good options for community interaction, but I still maintain this is one of the best. Hope to see ya out at the Monday Ice Breaker and the Tuesday Social!

WiSE GOLF TOURNAMENT

Save the date! The Women in Seismic annual golf tournament to raise funds for breast and ovarian cancer research will be held on Monday, September 12th, 2011 at Fox Hollow in Calgary. This is a great opportunity for peer networking whilst supporting a great cause! Online registration will begin shortly.

If you are interested in hole or prize sponsorship, please contact Danielle Harrison at Danielle.harrison@divestco.com.

LIGHT UP the WORLD – Silent Auction

When you come to the Exhibit Hall for recovery 2011, please take the time to look at the Silent Auction items that have been donated by many members of and friends to our industry. We have already collected a significant number of auction items, and are grateful for your support. The Silent Auction begins on Monday at the Exhibit Hall, and will end on Tuesday at the Hyatt, during the Tuesday Social Gala.

This year we are once again proud to support Light Up The World (LUTW) with the proceeds of the auction. LUTW is an international development organization dedicated to providing renewable energy and innovative lighting solutions to communities in need in the developing world.

For those who wish to donate items please contact Craig Van Dongen from Geotir: 403-818-8873 or craig@geotir.com.

DOODLESPIEL 2012

We are looking forward to another great DoodleSpiel, with next year 2012, being a special year. This will be the 40th Anniversary of the event and we will be moving back to Banff as all the new construction is complete! We anticipate selling out early and would encourage folks to register early next fall. As we put together more details we will release them. We are looking forward to seeing everyone in Banff, next January 27th to 29th, 2012.

As a preview, some of the coming attractions will include two sheets of original outdoor ice that we are looking at utilizing in some “fun” capacity. Currently we are rebuilding the www.doodlespeil.com website and the “DoodleSpiel Guy” is under going some modernization. Have a great spring and we hope to see you in Banff!

Earth Science for Society is BACK!

Earth Science for Society (ESfS) was such a success last year that it is running it again in 2011!

Please consider bringing your friends and families to visit ESfS exhibition at the TELUS Convention Centre on Sunday May 8th through Tuesday May 10th. This year’s interactive, geoscience themed pavilions are: Resources and You, Energy for Us, One Dynamic Earth and Our Future!

ESfS also needs YOU! If interested in volunteering as a Tour Guide for our local students, or act as floaters in the Pavilions, please contact Helen or Kathryn at esfsvolunteer@geoconvention.com for more information.
