Happy December… T’is the season for SNOW, SNOW and more SNOW! I know that many of us will be attending the holiday parties that happen in November and December, so please make sure you play safe and keep your friends and colleagues safe. (Personally, I would prefer to play safe on a beach somewhere…)
Also, if you haven’t yet, please make sure that you vote in this year’s CSEG election. I was reading through all of the candidate bios, and am very pleased with the experience and aspirations of our candidate pool. Thank you to all of you for allowing your names to stand.

University of Alberta – UAGGS
We, the graduate geophysics students at the University of Alberta, have recently established a new Student Chapter, UAGGS (University of Alberta Graduate Geophysical Society), under the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG).
The main objective of our organization is to promote interest in, and knowledge of, Geophysics and associated sciences, and to promote friendship and cooperation among those interested in the Geophysical sciences. Our goals aim to incorporate the graduate students’ body as a part of our activities. We are planning to invite speakers from academia and industry to give talks in the Department of Physics, and engage the audience in discussion and debate about the subjects presented. We also want to participate in a Project of Merit subsidized by the SEG. This involves using Geophysics and Geology as a tool to solve a problem in a Community, for instance some environmental issue. We plan to organize mixers for doing an ice-breaking with the members of the Society, and also mixers involving representatives from the industry.
As a new student chapter, one of our main goals is to increase number of members. We are currently recruiting new members from the Department of Physics and Earth and Atmospheric Sciences. We believe that diversity of graduate students will strengthen our activities and will be fruitful for both departments. We are currently seeking sponsors, both individuals and companies, to support us financially. We will be happy to put the logo of such sponsor on our website (under construction). To contact us for more information or sponsorship, please contact the president of UAGGS, Idowu Oluwaseyi (oai@ualberta.ca).
Canadian Journal of Exploration Geophysics
We are excited to announce that the CSEG peer-reviewed journal Canadian Journal of Exploration Geophysics (CJEG) is being revived under the guide of Larry Lines, Professor, Department of Geoscience, University of Calgary and Satinder Chopra, Arcis. An electronic version of the CJEG will be published 1-2 times per year with each issue containing usually 6-12 referenced papers.
A call for papers is happening in 2010, and the first publication is scheduled for June 2011. For those members unfamiliar with the CJEG, you may find electronic versions on the CSEG website at the following address: http://cseg.ca/resources/journal
For information on paper requirements, please contact Larry Lines (lrlines@ucalgary.ca), CJEG Co-Editor.
