May 2010 – Lorna Engleson is off to have a baby, so I am back on Grapevine duty for a few months! This month, I would like to highlight the activities of David MacKidd (EnCana), who has been active with “Inn From The Cold” since its inception in Calgary back in 1997. Inn From The Cold, created to provide emergency assistance to families in need, started from one church, and has now grown to include support from many multi-denominational churches/synagogues and community groups. These days, Dave organizes teams to cook dinner at the new Emergency Family Centre located in the Beltline district in Calgary. If you, or your company, may be interested in volunteering one evening (as an individual or as a team-building activity), please check out www.innfromthecold.org or contact Dave directly at david.mackidd@encana.com

58th ANNUAL DOODLEBUG GOLF TOURNAMENT – DATE & LOCATION CHANGE!
This year there are some big changes in store for the tournament. The Doodlebug Golf Committee values the input from the CSEG membership and their associated companies. For this reason there is a new location and date for the 2010 Doodlebug.
September 9 – 11, 2010, at the Kimberley Alpine Resort.
The Doodlebug Golf Tournament is an event held each summer that provides a competitive golf venue for CSEG members of all levels and ability, from scratch golfers to true first-timers. Participants and their guests will enjoy a full schedule of formal and informal social events throughout each day and on into the evenings. Similar to Doodlespiel and Ski Spree, it is the social and networking aspect of this event that provides the basis for a great weekend amongst new and old friends of the Canadian Geophysical Industry.
Kimberley Alpine Resort is one of Canada’s premier resorts that offers Doodlebug participants access to this fantastic venue at a very reasonable cost. The golf course is challenging, but extremely forgiving and each hole bears a different and distinctive view of the majestic Kootenay Range.
The 2010 Committee hopes that you will consider this event in your plans for this summer. www.doodlebuggolf.ca.

In the interest of promoting sustainable development LUTW has invited Bob Willard, a leading expert on corporate sustainability strategies, to speak at The Ranchman’s Club at noon on June 4th. For more information please visit www.lutw.org.
(Columnist note: I would like to commend Sean Callaghan, LUTW/GeoCanada 2010 Silent Auction Coordinator, for all of his hard work in putting the Silent Auction together. He and his team have worked hard in soliciting donations, which admittedly in these economic times CAN be a bit difficult. PLEASE visit the LUTW auction on the Convention Exhibit floor May 10th and 11th.)
