There’s not a lot to look forward to in February. It’s still winter; no one believes the Groundhog anyway. There is Valentine’s Day, but maybe that’s nothing to look forward to, especially if you’re one of those who believes that it’s a hoax—a holiday invented by greeting card companies in order to generate more business. On the less pessimistic side (sorry, I get it from my Mother), it’s a shorter month, only 28 days. That’s right, a shorter working month, less time in between pay cheques. Hmmm, not so bad after all…

15th Annual Calgary Mining Forum
The Calgary Mining Forum is Alberta’s foremost convention for anyone involved in mineral exploration and mine development in Alberta, across Canada and around the world. Technical talks by industry and government experts will be presented, as well as short courses, posters and a trade show. The trade show and poster sessions are open to the general public.

Veritas DGC Inc. and Eidesvik
Veritas DGC Inc. and Eidesvik Offshore ASA today announced that Eidesvik and Veritas’ Viking Maritime Inc., subsidiary have entered into an agreement to charter a seismic research vessel which is to be newly constructed. The time charter is for a period of 8 years fixed, with options of up to 10 more years. When delivered from West Contractors yard in Ølensvåg, Norway, in February 2007, the vessel will be the seventh seismic vessel in the Veritas fleet, and the fourth to be owned and operated for Veritas by Eidesvik on worldwide seismic operations.
The vessel is 105 meters long with an extended breadth of 24 meters, and will have the capability of towing up to 12 long streamers. The gross tonnage is approximately 11,500 tonnes and the vessel will have accommodation for up to 70 persons. The vessel is owned by Eidesvik Shipping AS, a wholly owned subsidiary of Eidesvik Offshore ASA.

Junior Geophysicists Forum (formerly Young Geophysicists Forum)
We have a new name! We have changed the name of the Young Geophysicists Forum to the Junior Geophysicists Forum. The purpose of the forum is for students and junior geophysicists to network with established geophysicists within the geophysical community. The next JGF will be held Wednesday, May 10th.
