U.S. Patent Issued for 3-D Seismic Coherence Cube™ Technology

Coherence Technology Company and Amoco Corporation recently announced the issuance of U.S. patent umber 5,563,949 "Method of Signal Processing and Exploration." Coherence Cube technology represents the most significant breakthrough in 3-D seismic interpretation in the last decade. This three-dimensional post processing technology, invented by Amoco, is available through Houston-based Coherence Technology Company (CTC).

First developed by Amoco and continually refined by CTC, the coherence algorithms compare local seismic waveform coherency throughout a given three-dimensional volume. Points of low coherence closely correlate with geologic discontinuities, such as faults, channels, and other depositional stratigraphic boundaries. Faults are clearly delineated even when they run parallel to strike, often where no fault reflections are recorded using conventional three-dimensional seismic technology.

Neil Windsor, P.Eng. New Executive Director for APEGGA

The Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta (APEGGA) has a new executive director. Neil Windsor, P.Eng., was recently appointed to his position by the Association's governing Council. He replaces Robert Ross, P.Eng., who retired this fall.

Mr. Windsor, who hails from St. John's, Newfoundland, assumes his position with APEGGA following a career in engineering and public service, including 21 years as a member of the Newfoundland House of Assembly. Eleven of these years were spent as a cabinet minister of several key portfolios, including: Municipal Affairs, Treasury Board, Development, Finance, Mines and Energy, and Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro. Prior to coming to Alberta, he operated an engineering consulting business providing expertise in civil and environmental engineering, municipal planning, project management, and other business and financial advice.
